Learning From The Roman Empire

I really do like history, because if you have a good knowledge of it, you can predict what is going to happen in the future. After all, human nature is what it is and we tend to repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again. Here is one case in point:

Slave revolt lessons from history In 73 BC, the Thracian gladiator Spartacus led one of the biggest slave revolts in the history of the world in what became known as the Third Servile War.

By most accounts, there were over 100,000 slaves fighting against the Romans for their freedom. This is quite a large number. For comparison, uprisings of just a few dozen slaves in the American south during the 19th century were considered shockingly large.

In light of that, I though it might be interesting to let you know how our neighbor, Mexico, handles illegal Cubans who are trying to make it through Mexico to try and get to the U.S.A.:

The number of undocumented Cubans intercepted in Mexico on their way to the U.S. border has more than doubled in the eight months since Havana eased its migration controls, according to Mexican government figures. The Interior Ministry numbers were the latest indication of the greatly increased flow of Cubans, both undocumented and legal, through Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean over the past year.

The Barber

The barber and community service One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week.'
